Family Residential Program

Our Family Residential Program helps single-parent families rebuild and stabilize their lives. We offer low-cost housing and income support, career and education support, individualized financial coaching and extensive case management. Through our community, new beginnings thrive.

Resident Support

For far too many families across this country, the cost of living outpaces what they earn.

And, for single parents, especially with a history of past abuse, domestic violence or trauma, just one unexpected bill or unforeseen change in circumstances can set off a chain reaction of instability that can seem insurmountable without help.

That’s where our Family Residential Program comes in.

Our program provides stable, affordable and safe housing and supportive services to single-parent families who are employed, but need help navigating the complexities of their life and past circumstances. The program’s true aim is to equip and empower families to be self-reliant in ways they never imagined. We all know a family who could benefit from a program like ours. They are our servers in our favorite restaurants or the manager at our favorite retail store. Despite their steady income, they don't always know if they’ll have enough to pay all the bills. Researchers describe these families as ALICE, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Cumberland helps ALICE families led by single parents identify lasting strategies that will address their family’s unique needs.

 Meet Jada

Jada is a single mother of four who joined our Family Residential Program to get support for herself and her children. Through our program, she received the support she needed to earn her high school diploma with honors this spring. Jada worked hard to complete the program with four children, all while working full-time in the middle of a pandemic.

Since graduation, she has started classes in a medical instrument sterilization program, which will guarantee that she never has to work a minimum wage job again. We are so proud of how far she has come.
