Committed To Keeping Youth Safe And Families Together
Cumberland Youth & Family Services, formerly known as Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home, primarily supports youth in foster care, young adults aging out of foster care and single-parent families. Located in Denton, Texas, we provide residential care, counseling and supportive services that aim to uplift and empower youth in foster care, young adults aging out of care and families. Our staff is expertly trained in helping our highly diverse residents handle stress and trauma. We work hard to provide a comforting sense of normalcy for those that have been affected by things beyond their control, because no one’s past should define who they are in the future.
Our New Name
Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home was founded in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1904 after a generous donation from Miss Victoria Jackson. The initial gift that started it all was a house intended for the purpose of caring for children and widows in need of support. After moving to Denton in 1932, Cumberland now stands on the same plot of land it has called home for 89 years.
As the ever-changing needs for youth and young adults in foster care and families evolve, so too does Cumberland. Through every obstacle that has stood in our way, we have stayed true to our roots in scripture and in sanctuary for those in need. The work we do has become more powerful, but our values will always remain the same.
FAQs About Our Name Change

Like many organizations who have navigated over a century of change, we have long embraced that innovation is a necessity in our work. We have been and will always be a compassionate community for those who needed a safe place to call home. Our new name and logo embody our commitment to growth and potential—for our agency and those we serve.

Our legacy as an organization founded by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church is important to us. Many individuals, churches and groups within the denomination are among our most valued champions. We like to say we are one of the church’s greatest domestic missions. Since 2012, we have operated independently through a Covenant Agreement with the CPC. The IRS recognizes us as a charitable nonprofit providing human services, not as a religious organization. That means employees and residents are not required to have a faith background or participate in faith-based activities to be employed or receive services. We are fortunate to be supported by individuals, corporations, organizations and faith communities from all walks of life.
