A New Direction For A Brighter Future

Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home has served the community for 118 years but, as our organization has evolved, so too have the ways we make a difference to those we serve. In order to better present our services, we are proud to announce that we are changing our name to Cumberland Youth and Family Services. Our story has been rooted in the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination since day one, and we will always be honored by their support.

“Cumberland is nothing like it used to be, but everything it’s always been”

— Board Chairman Brian Martin

A Fitting Logo For A New Name

We chose the symbolism of a tree in our new logo because of how it relates to our services and residents. There are many trees with powerful healing properties, which is a sign of God’s provision for us and our everlasting prosperity. The ancient symbol of the Tree has been found to represent physical and spiritual nourishment, transformation and liberation. They are seen as powerful symbols of growth, the kind we like to see in our residents and community.

 Questions About Our Name Change

  • The entire reason our organization exists is to keep youth safe and keep families together. We felt that our previous name did not accurately represent all that we do in our community. As the ever-changing needs for youth in foster care and families continue to evolve, so too does Cumberland. We feel that our new identity better encompasses our services, residents and mission.

  • Absolutely. Our continued support of the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination is an important aspect of our history and our future. We believe that changing our name is a crucial step for providing as much support to our community as possible, but our values will always remain the same.

  • Our services evolve to meet community needs. We strive to offer more to our residents and our community at all times. The services that we currently offer, such as Treatment Services, Emergency Services, Adolescent Services and Family Residential Program are not changing. We are, however, expanding our services with a Supervised Independent Living Program and Community Counseling.

  • Yes, as we continue to expand our services to the community, your donations will benefit youth in foster care and single-parent families more than ever before. 75 cents of every dollar that is donated to our agency goes directly towards supporting our programs, services and residents.

  • As we continue to inform our community and congregations, we ask that you help us communicate the importance of our new name. What we would like for people to understand is who we serve, which is primarily teenagers in foster care and single-parent families with trauma backgrounds. Our only goal in updating our name is to help as many people as possible by creating transparency behind our services. If anyone in your congregation has questions about the updated name, please help them understand why this move is so important to our residents and community. The video below should work to answer any questions that you or your congregates may have about the thought behind our name.

Advancements To Our Continuum Of Care

Along with the programs we’ve always offered, we are extending our services in 2022.

Supervised Independent Living Program
Provides valuable living and learning experiences for youth who have aged out of foster care in a self-directed environment to inspire self-sufficiency.

Community Counseling
Aims to make life in the foster care system simple by offering all of the counseling services that our community needs to keep their families together.

Trauma Informed Care
Means that we would infuse and sustain trauma awareness into every aspect of our campus and services.

Our History

Cumberland Youth and Family Services has an extensive history of offering healing and hope to vulnerable children, teens and families.

Make A Difference By Donating Today.

The scope of the need for youth in foster care and single-parent families is much greater than most realize. In the U.S. alone, there were more than 424,000 youth in foster care in 2020. 36% of those are between the ages of 11-18, the age group most commonly served by our agency. Be a hero for those we serve by donating today so we can transform lives forever, together.
