Employee Spotlight: Myriah Samuel

Meet Myriah, our Foster Care and Adoption Program Case Manager! Myriah brings so much positivity and energy to Cumberland, and we are so excited to spotlight her this month.

Interview

What attracted you to work at Cumberland?

"It was the many programs that are available here. Cumberland not only helps children in foster care but also parents who need help getting back on their feet to be the best parents possible. I also really love the environment and the people who work here. You can tell everyone has a passion for what they do and works hard every day."

Describe a specific accomplishment here at Cumberland that you are proud of.

“I am very proud of the fact that when I was hired, we were a brand-new program. We had no families, no children, no licensed homes, etc. As of today, we have licensed 16 families and served over 30 foster kids in a little over a year! We are still growing, and honestly, everything we do is an accomplishment for me and makes me proud to be a case manager here at Cumberland.”

What do you think makes Cumberland’s Foster Care and Adoption Program unique?

“It’s our willingness to lean on one another when needed. When one of us needs help, we are quick to jump in or ask for help. We are a team.”

What do you wish our community knew about foster care and adoption?

"It does not take long to get licensed. I feel people think it can take up to a year or more, but it does not. It can be as fast as 3 months... or up to 6 months. It really is up to them and how fast they complete their training. In the end, it is all worth it!”

 Share a fun fact about yourself!

"My favorite color is Pink! My kitchen at home is pink, including the trash bags. My three boys and husband encourage it by buying me anything pink - cups, shoes, hats, jackets, chairs, etc. Even my work office is pink!"
