Denton residents who are lacking the coverage needed for counseling services, can now receive counseling sessions at Cumberland Youth & Family Services. The Cumberland Counseling Program was expanded to serve uninsured and underinsured Denton residents. Thanks to grant support from the City of Denton, clients can access counseling services for as little as $5 per session.

The counseling team at Cumberland is providing in person and online video teleconference appointments for children, teens, college age young adults and adults. Whether you or a family member have experienced or are currently experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, family conflict or a life transition the Cumberland Community Counseling program is available to provide individual counseling sessions personalized to you.

The Cumberland Community Counseling Program is fully funded through a grant from the City of Denton.

“We know, based on the United Way’s 2023 Community Needs Assessment, that access to mental health providers is one of the biggest challenges in our community. Denton County has one provider to every 750 residents compared to other counties with one provider to every 250 residents. Cumberland Youth & Family Services is excited to be part of the solution! We have expanded our counseling program to now serve uninsured or underinsured Denton residents. Because of the limited number of providers in Denton County,  some of the biggest barriers to accessing mental health services are extensive wait lists or the cost of services. We currently do not have wait lists. And thanks to our partnership with the City of Denton, we are able to provide a sliding scale for clients with sessions as little as $5.” — Courtney Banotoski, CEO Cumberland youth and family services

Access to counseling services, especially for the under-insured and uninsured, is important to us. Cumberland Youth and Family Services is a historically trusted resource for counseling services in Denton, and the north Texas region. This program allows the organization to leverage that history to offer counseling services to kids and adults in Denton, Texas.

“This program makes counseling available to people in the community who may have previously seen therapy and emotional health as a luxury. This program helps counseling services to be more financially accessible. The community counseling program can help people who are in the midst of difficulty but it also can serve as a layer of support that can work proactively to prevent crises such as DFPS involvement, loss of job due to burnout, family discord, and even suicide.” — Crystal Gardiner, Clinical Director Cumberland Youth and Family Services.

There is currently no waitlist for counseling services. To request an appointment Denton residents can call 940-382-5112 or visit cumberlandservices.org/community-counseling to complete the online request form.
